Abstract

This article provides an overview of industrial and municipal waste-to-energy incineration as an alternative to costly solid waste landfill or to environmentally incorrect open dump disposal. Various technologies and environmental considerations are described. Lessons learned from 25 years of incineration experience in the US and Europe are discussed. Two municipal case studies-economic models are presented here. Additional industrial cases will follow in future articles.
