Abstract
Abstract Fly ash from incinerators was solidified with cement and further pozzolanic binders. These processes not only led to a better fixation of hazardous ingredients because of some chemical reactions which occur within the solidified waste bodies. Under certain circumstances a mobilization of toxic metals was also detected which depended on the presence of hydrolyzable bio‐mass or on the amount of soluble alkaline earth salts from flue gas scrubbers. These processes are discussed and it is shown how to avoid migration of toxic elements.
