Abstract

Robert B. Suter is assistant professor of biology at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, where he has taught since 1977. He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor in 1982-83 at the Rockefeller University, Field Research Center, doing research on spider communication and orientation. Dr. Suter holds a B.A. in biology from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in animal behavior from Indiana University. He is active in the Ecological Society of America, the Animal Behavior Society, and the American Arachnological Society. In addition to his research on spider behavior and ecology, Dr. Suter is particularly interested in bringing science to nonscientists, and is the director of the new program of natural history education of young children held at Vassar's Ecological Preserve. 5 s_~~~~~~~~~~1 /
