<h3>NAM Opposed to King-Anderson.</h3> —The National Association of Manufacturers has told Congress it faces a choice between a voluntary system of medical care that has made America the envy of the world and a national compulsory program that will change this system beyond hope of recall. In a statement filed with the House Ways and Means Committee, the NAM said, "We fear that once the<i>principle</i>of a compulsory system has been established there will be no turning back until we have experienced all the miseries of socialized medicine." The NAM asked what of those people retiring under social security at age 62—can Congress afford to ignore them because of a three-year age difference? And then there are the totally disabled, many of whom are already in hospitals—actually their case is more logical than that of the over-65 group. What of the medical needs of dependents— young children and mothers?
