Abstract

This chapter discusses how the geography of Washington, DC, informed the birth of new wave and ultimately hardcore punk via Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Government Issue, and more. It also discusses the role of gender in that scene as well as its relationship with other underground movements like Go-Go.
