Abstract

Summary What does Adler mean to us 75 years after his death? An initial appraisal of Gisela Eife’s paper: »Some thoughts on a post-Adlerian Individual Psychology«. Personal experience and further thoughts. After a positive assessment of Gisela Eife’s paper (in this issue), the author turnst o the question of whether the Adlerian holisitic approach can prevent us from seeing the details in our therapeutic work. Based on personal experience, the author shows that concepts from the Freudian tradition are necessary in order to gain a deeper understanding of psychic processes. Furthermore, the author points out the importance of recent research results which have been discussed in the context of empirical infant research studies. Finally, it is suggested that Adler’s holistic perspective could be particularly helpful in understanding the intra-psychic and inter-subjective conflicts of later life.
