Abstract
Evaporites. Their Evolution and Economics by J. Warren deals with very diverse aspects related to evaporites. Some have already been dealt with in similar previous books, others are a significant novelty. The first three chapters (1, Interpreting evaporite texture; 2, Brine evolution and mineralogy; 3, Evaporite basins and their stratigraphic evolution) describe well-known aspects commonly dealt with in the sedimentological literature. Evaporites are classified as primary, secondary and tertiary, ‘secondary’ corresponding to diagenetic (including sabkha textures and mineralogies) and ‘tertiary’ to evaporites in the exhumation stage.
