Abstract

The localized modes of a layered photonic crystal with a substitutional defect are calculated by expanding the magnetic field over a truncated set of Wannier functions. Good agreement is found with the results obtained by the transfer-matrix technique. It is shown that frequencies converge very fast (slowly) as the number of unit cells (photonic bands) in the truncated set is increased.
