Walt Whitman and Asian American Writers

Abstract

Explores Whitman's attitudes toward Asian Americans and reads the work of several Asian American writers--including Sadakichi Hartmann, Yone Noguchi, Lin Yutang, Younghill Kang, Carlos Bulosan, Garrett Hongo, and Maxine Hong Kingston--in the context of Whitman's poetry and vision of democracy.
