Abstract

For some people spring and summer sunshine is not a cause of pleasure and anticipation but can herald a miserable time. For these individuals, photosensitivity to the sun can bring on unpleasant skin reactions lasting for days or even weeks. One of the most common photosensitivity conditions, affecting approx-imately 10–20% of the population (Taylor, 1998), is polymorphic light eruption (PLE), also colloquially known as ‘prickly heat’.
