Abstract

The wake survey was undertaken for a submerged wake generator, which was designed to reduce the potential wake and wave as little as possible. It was found that the viscous resistance, determined by flow measurement, showed a good agreement with that obtained from the resistance test. It was confiremed that the differences among the viscous resistance formulae, which have been proposed hitherto, were negligible. However, the resistance which was derived from the total head loss in the wake, was about 10% higher than that from other methods. These formulae were applied to a cargo ship model. It was found that there were no practical differences among them except the formula by the use of total head loss alone. The wave pattern analysis, the longitudinal cut method, was performed and it was found that the sum of the results of both wake survey and wave pattern analysis was in good agreement with the total resistance measured by a resistance dynamometer.
