Originally published in Costa Rica in 2002 by Zona Tropical as The Natural History of Costa Rican Mammals this edition is a repackaging, rather than an update. The original was reviewed by Bob Timm (2004) in the Journal of Mammalogy, but the book is now much more readily available. The wealth of information on one of the better-known Central American mammal faunas warrants calling attention to the book once again. The book is an attempt to summarize the wealth of scientific information available on Costa Rican mammals in a format that is easily accessible to a general readership.
