Abstract

The Wai Khru ceremony, meaning in honor of the teacher, is a traditional ritual in Thailand. It involves performance with music accompany, dancing and recitation of the wai khru chant. For student, this is the way to pay respect and homage for their teachers.Teachers are given great respect and status in Thai society . Not only could he teach, but he also imbue with traditional Thai thought. Wai khru has different forms in arts field, such as music, dance and boxing. Therefore, this paper is based on the Wai Khru ceremony at Srinakharinwirot University in 2010 and 2011. This ceremony continued for two days. The first day is to prepare for second day. Aside from decorating hall, also perform music until mid-night. The second day includes Buddhist rites, Wai Khru ceremony and initiation rite. We can find the order, hierarchy and learning behavior in this ceremony. It is seldom to talk about Thai music in Taiwan. It will be the fundamental for Thai traditional music research through this issue.
