Abstract

For the initial stages of the oxidation of nickel an equation is proposed which is derived by the following assumptions: 1. a phase boundary reaction including electrons at the interface NiO O 2 is rate determining; 2. the contact Ni NiO is described by the Schottky theory. The equation can be approximated by a logarithmic rate law.
