Abstract

The authors report the results of far-infrared and radio molecular CO observations of the W3 North star-forming region. The object shows extended dust and gas emission, which is interpreted as the result of fairly advanced disruption of a molecular cloud. This idea is supported by an estimate for the age of the embedded H II region. It is possible that W3 North is the oldest object among the W3 complex of sources.
