Abstract

Acute bowel obstruction is the presenting symptom in 7-30% of patients with colorectal cancer. Emergent surgical decompression often provokes major complications, while advanced age may contribute to a negative post-operative outcome, mainly due to co-existing morbidity. Colonic stenting is an established, reliable alternative in restoring luminal patency, especially in poor surgical candidates.
