Abstract
Poland’s current demographic situation does not differ considerably from the situation in other European Union countries where the phenomenon of population ageing has intensified. Older people constitute a group affected by social exclusion due to poor financial status, poor health or disability as well as the fact that older people are regarded as in Polish society. Important people in the life of the elderly include family members as well as professionals such as social workers. The latter are often the only source of support for an older person who is alone or ill, and lives in a village.

W stronę integracji czy wykluczenia społecznego – poglądy pracowników socjalnych na temat osób starszych. Towards Social Inclusion or Social Exclusion – the Views of Social Workers on Older Persons. Obecna sytuacja demograficzna Polski nie różni się znacząco od kondycji ludnościowej innych krajów Unii Europejskiej. Którą dotyka wykluczenie społeczne z powodu niskiego statusu materialnego, złego stanu zdrowia czy niesprawności, a także ze względu na postrzeganie człowieka starszego przez polskie społeczeństwo jako tego gorszego. Ważne w życiu osób starszych są nie tylko osoby z rodziny, ale również profesjonaliści, tacy jak pracownicy socjalni, którzy często są jedynym źródłem wsparcia dla osoby starszej – samotnej, zamieszkującej na wsi, chorej.
