Abstract

4 The Peter Raven Award is an international award given by our Society to a plant systematist who has made exceptional efforts at outreach to nonscientists. A review of Hardy’s botanical career makes it appear as if this award been written with Hardy as a model. His academic life focused on Economic Botany and Ethnobotany, researching such topics as the taxonomy of chili peppers, home gardens in the Amazon, and biodiversity of the Bahamas. He has mentored fully 42 graduate students. He has published a steady stream of scientific and popular articles and continues to publish, some 10 yr after his retirement.
