Abstract
The Workshop for Art Research and Practice (W.A.R.P.), at the University of Florida, Gainesville, is a radical solution for the teaching of foundations within a state university art department. The course introduces beginning students to the practice of contemporary art, especially recognizing the impact that critical theory and new media have had on the field. It also seeks to redress the cultural homogenization of the students, often attributed to the public education system, as well as to the general influence of mass media.
