Abstract

This book is one of the outputs of the four-year research project Use of economic and social potential of cultural heritage through educational and touristic products on the example of historic trusses (project no. TL03000377), which was supported by the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic as part of the ÉTA Program. The book summarizes selected results of the mentioned project. It shows a way to identify and use the economic and social potential of historic trusses through educational and tourism activities. The goal of the book is to provide a comprehensive view of the use of historic trusses and to offer methodical approaches and inspiration for the development of educational and tourist products in this area. The book is intended for experts, researchers, preservation workers and all those interested in cultural heritage. The book consists of several chapters that successively deal with different aspects of the topic. In the introduction, the need for amethodical approach to the presentation of trusses as a specific cultural heritage is presented, emphasizing the importance of correct presentation and the use of the potential of cultural heritage. The next chapter is briefly devoted to the issue of the care of cultural monuments and its institutional provision in the Czech Republic. The following are three chapters presenting the methodological outputs of the project. The Methodological principles of thematic and educational programs sections focus on the preparation, implementation and evaluation of educational programs focused specifically on historical trusses. The next part presents the methodological principles of the socio-economic evaluation of the use of historical trusses and the establishment of interconnected goals and interests of various interested groups. The last methodological part is dedicated to the principles of archival work, which is important for the management and preservation of information about historical roofs. In the seventh chapter, the project Use of economic and social potential of cultural heritage through educational and touristic products on the example of historic trusses is presented in more detail including an overview of all achieved outputs with their brief characteristics. This is followed by a chapter providing more detailed examples and a description of selected applications and project results in the form of educational programs, a tour route and a model valuation of the value of the media space associated with Cheb’s historical trusses.The book closes with a chapter that focuses on the simulation of the socioeconomic benefits of using historical trusses in Cheb for tourism. It uses system dynamic modeling to simulate future development scenarios, which can help the responsible institutions in making decisions about the use of Cheb’s historical trusses. The purpose of the book is not only to present the results of the abovementioned project, but also to serve as a methodical guide for experts, researchers, conservation workers and all those interested in cultural heritage who are interested in the use of historic trusses as ameans of economic and social development.
