Abstract
AbstractRussian psychologist Lev Semenovich Vygotsky (1896–1934) originated sociocultural theory, which regards social interaction between children and more expert members of their culture as the wellspring of cognitive development. Vygotsky's theory and especially his most influential concept – the zone of proximal development – inspired research into many aspects of teaching and learning.
