Abstract

Vulvoscopy with photography involves examination of external female genitalia using a binocular vulvoscope/colposcope with 4x, 6x, 10x, 16x and 25x magnification and light source. Indications for evaluation include vulvo/vestibulodynia and dermatologic lesions. The cotton swab test is performed to evaluate localized vestibular pain. The “vinegar test” can identify suspect lesions (condylomata/warts, lichen): application of diluted acetic acid (3–5%) to the skin using a cotton wad or gauze and evaluation of area for suspect whitening after > 1 minute. Photographs in figure 1 show: Hart's line on the inside of labia minora between vulva (keratinized squamous epithelium) and vestibule (non‐keratinized squamous epithelium); an epidermal cyst of the vulva/right labia majora; and fibroma pendulans (Acrochordon, skin tag) on the left inner thigh.
