Abstract

In recent years the dependency of various electronics devices used in power grids has increased on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), as it is capable to provide real time stamp. Recent investigations have revealed the susceptibility has various application in Marine, farming, military, surveying, science, marine, aviation, power system etc. Intelligent Electronics Devices (IED) such as PMU are highly dependent on time signal obtained from any GNSS. Due to high dependency of IED on GNSS and high vulnerability of GNSS towards time spoofing attacks, the analysis of impact of spoofing attacks has one of the major concern of power grid security. This paper introduces GNSS system, its applications in power system, vulnerability of various IED specially focused on PMU and real time jamming of various GPS/IRNSS/SBAS satellite signals.
