Abstract

In the present paper, we have analyzed the vulnerability and surviving pattern of elderly migrants in Mexico. We have interviewed 156 Mexican elderly migrants in Monterrey Metropolitan Region during 2010-11. The study found that, majority of elderly migrates in search of a better economic opportunity in urban areas. Once they arrive to city, they absorb in informal economic sectors. Study found that most of the elderly do not have any job contract as well as they also earns very less compared to younger migrants. Most of the time employers ask them to work more hours without extra salary.Elderly migrants are suffering many kinds of physical violence as well as laboral exploitation; even they also discriminated because of their physical condition. Study concludes that due to absence of social security and good public policies for elderly people, they are migrating in a hope to sustain their livelihood.
