Abstract

A novel application of the active filtering approach is proposed in this paper. It is based on the combination of two voltage source inverter (VSI) feeding an high power induction machine. The active filtering approach is used to compensate the effects, on an induction machine, of a VSI operating with a low switching frequency. The improvements introduced by the proposed solution are a reduced switching losses and an improved quality of the motor currents. In the paper the performances of the proposed motor side active filter (MSAF) are illustrated by using simulated and experimental results
