Abstract
AbstractThis paper addresses the loadability of long transmission lines. An advanced series compensation scheme is presented consisting of a series‐connected voltage‐sourced inverter and fixed series‐capacitors. This scheme provides substantial increase of the line loadability beyond that achievable with fixed capacitive compensation alone. In addition, it provides smooth power‐flow control. Results from simulation studies demonstrate its effectiveness in improving the loadability of long transmission lines and providing damping of interarea oscillations.
