Abstract

Aortobifemoral bypass grafting has been the traditional treatment for extensive aorto-iliac occlusive disease (AIOD). We present a case of recanalization, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (R/PTAS) of the iliac vessels combined with femoral endarterectomy in a patient with severe AIOD. We have performed nearly 100 of these procedures with good mid-term resolution of symptoms and durability. Concomitant treatment of femoral disease often needed. R/PTAS is a suitable, less invasive alternative to aortic reconstruction for treatment of patients with severe AIOD.
