Abstract

The architectural heritage and historical sites in Palestine are disappearing. Human and natural factors, negligence, deliberate demolition, and wars are endangering the collective cultural heritage. There is a lack of awareness of the importance of heritage sites and historically important landscapes to modern development, and no mechanism is available for conveying the importance and meaning of such historical places to new generations. In response to the ongoing threats to architectural heritage and historical sites, the Virtual Reality Laboratory (VR-Lab) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has begun to join forces with local institutions in Palestine to record and document endangered heritage sites and historically important landscapes.
