Abstract

This study reports a rare case of fetal massive intra cranial hemorrhage diagnosed in the third trimester of pregnancy. Fetal intra cranial hemorrhage (ICH) refers to hemorrhage anywhere within the cranium detected in utero. In most cases the etiology of fetal ICH remains unclear but maternal trauma, maternal vitamin K deficiency, thrombocytopenia, fetal coagulation disorders, vascular anomalies, severe fetal hypoxia, and infections are possible predisposing factors. Ultrasonography (US) is the imaging modality of choice for the diagnosis of fetal ICH and MRI provides additional information that is useful in management. The prognosis of these hemorrhages is poor with risk of stillbirth, neonatal death or postnatal neurodevelopmental deficiencies.
