Abstract

We numerically study superconducting vortices confined by an array of asymmetric funnels. For driving in the easy direction, we find peaks in the depinning force at commensurate matching fields where the vortex arrangements in each plaquette are identical. The commensuration effects are reduced for driving in the hard direction, but the overall depinning forces are much higher, indicating that the system exhibits a diode effect. When flux builds up in one or more of the funnels, the flow can be completely blocked in a probabilistic clogging event. Complete or partial clogging produces sudden drops in the velocity-force curves that should be observable experimentally.
