Abstract
An approach to spatial domain analysis of digital halftoning techniques using the Voronoi tessellation of halftone dot patterns is described. The first and second moments of the average distance among dots in an halftone pattern are used to analyze different halftoning techniques. The experimental results verified that (i) error diffusion algorithms distribute dots that are further apart compared to order dither, and (ii) different filters in error diffusion algorithms have performance characteristics that depend on gray level ranges.
