Abstract

This essay describes the origins of the term “cities without cities” (Zwischenstadt), which is the spread and transformation of urban landscapes and the causes, the various approaches, the landscape characteristics of the city without a city and the reasons for the public's disinterest in it. Lastly, the particularities of the designs in the connection with city-regions are sketched out.
