Abstract

In this study different aspects of the Hungarian monumental heritage are treated. In the first part: ‘Country's representation around 1900’ is studied, how multiplicity of styles and nations in historical Hungary was shown on exhibitions. In the second part: ‘The Concept of the Whole and of the Fragment’ the reaction of Hungarian art historiography on the loss of territories and of important cultural heritage as well in consequence of the Peace Treaty after World War I is studied. In the third part the words ‘Central Europe’ and ‘East Europe’ have to characterize two different concepts of a cultural affinity in the divided world of the Cold War, and finally, recent concepts of the Heritage Community are examined.
