Abstract

From canon law lo protestant church law — traditions and discontinuities. On the occasion of the 500* anniversary of the Reformation, the article gives an outline of its effects on the church law in protestant territories of the Holy Roman Empire. The continuing application and conversion of canon law, the constitution of the church authorities, church ordinances and the secularization of ecclesiastic law are given as examples how on the one hand protestant church law upheld the traditions of medieval canon law, but reshaped it in a protestant way on the other hand.
