Abstract

Vomiting is a common symptom in emergency care. The pathophysiology of emesis is complex and involves various afferents that are likely to be activated and subsequently trigger the vomiting reflex. This may explain its numerous underlying causes. Most of the time, the cause may be rapidly identified by distinguishing acute and chronic emesis, and then by analysing the symptom features and the clinical history and context.
