Abstract
The following article looks at the genre transformation from Robert Walser’s diary novel Jakob von Gunten to Benjamin Schweizer’s libretto of the same name. Even if the sole aim is to explore the textual processing of the pre-text for the purposes of another (literary) genre, which the plurimedial character of the final text – the libretto – allows us to distinguish between dramatic, musical and performance texts as being isolable components of the opera as spectaculum (cf. Gier 34). In accordance with this interpretation, an intermedial approach seems warranted here.
