Vom Ruhr Zoo zur ZOOM Erlebniswelt II: Der Bauabschnitt Afrika

Abstract

In the ZOOM Erlebniswelt Gelsenkirchen only one year after the opening of “Alaska” the Africa area was completed and opened in August 2006. It presents members of the fauna of several typical African habitats on a total surface of 14 ha: savannah grasslands, tree savannahs, rivers, lakes and wetlands, as well as evergreen and riverine forests, too. Not only the exhibits, but the total landscape including buildings, vegetation, leisure areas and cultural additives were designed according to the immersion concept. The exhibits, the species kept and the realisation of the biogeographic topic “Africa” are described.
