Abstract
Evolution of the concept of Paris zoo from 1934 to 2014. Paris Zoo (PZP) is one of the few zoos in the world to have undergone a complete renovation once single. Result of constant improvement of knowledge in biology and veterinary medicine for the past eight decades, its transformation has affected all aspects of the organization and operation of the park, while respecting the fundamental missions of European zoos and of the national Museum of natural History : taxonomic diversity of species, taking into account animal welfare and enrichment of their environment, functionality of breeding, husbandry and veterinary facilities, participation in conservation and research programs among which many are initiated by the PZP, as well as improving public reception conditions with the presentation of animals to visitors in five life zones (“biozones”) and the establishment of educational tools to assist them in their discovery. The evolution of the concept of PZP 2014 and its implementation are put in perspective with PZP 1934.
