Abstract

Volunteer tourism has gained interests in academia and the industry due to its distinctive profiles such as personal and interpersonal values. While most research has focused on understanding tourist motivation using qualitative research methods such as interview, observation, and focus group, few empirical studies have examined how volunteer trips change volunteer tourists' motivation. Moreover, little research has investigated how and what motivation makes a significant impact on future participation in the context of volunteer tourism. Utilizing volunteer tourists from Korea, this study found that interactive volunteer tourism does change tourist motivation. This study also found that some motivation makes a significant influence on future volunteer tourism participation.
