Abstract

On the cover: Two patients undergo the same surgical procedure or therapeutic drug treatment. One patient walks away fully cured, while another one is bedridden for a while due to complications or slow response to treatments. What can the doctor do to help his still sick patient? The answer lies within our bodies, namely our immune system which sways the individual patient's response to drugs or surgery in one direction or another. Single cell analysis by cytometry opens new possibilities for predictive medicine and can help to eliminate the innate immunological obstacles on the patient's path to recovery.Cover design by Bärbel Beran [www.beran‐design.de].
