Abstract

This volume opens with an important work for the history of the A khrid teachings, a Great Perfection lineage which goes back to the famed rMe'u dgongs mdzod Ri khrod pa chen po of the 11th century. This is followed by a long series of short praises, works and poems written by Shardza Rinpoche. The volume concludes with a very useful work by Shardza's regent, Blo gros rgya mtsho, explaining the recitative verses of the preliminary practices according to the A khrid tradition. Among other texts, the chapter presents a short work on the meaning of dran pa, usually rendered as mindfulness. The author defines two kinds of mindfulness: the mindfulness of the genuine [natural state] and the mindfulness of discursive thoughts. The first is the direct experience of the natural state of mind, while the second refers to the potential of arising that thoughts naturally have. Keywords: A khrid tradition; Great Perfection lineage; natural state of mind; Shardza Rinpoche
