Abstract
In this paper, Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) cell capacity in terms of number of users is estimated using Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) voice codec. Analytical models are proposed to estimate the VoLTE cell capacity considering available Physical Resource Blocks (PRBs) and voice specific characteristic such as Voice Activity Factor (VAF) and Silent Insertion Descriptor (SID). Numerical results show that the cell capacity increases with higher bandwidths. Again, it is observed that higher order modulation scheme with lower order voice codec accommodates maximum number of VoLTE users. Also, it is found that VAF with SID based approach further increases VoLTE cell capacity in terms of number of concurrent users.
