Abstract

This paper proposes a hybrid optimization technique for voltage profile improvement in active distribution networks. The proposed hybrid technique is a combination of the two recent metaheuristic optimization techniques, Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA). The metaheuristic optimization techniques are built based on two main phases, the exploration phase, and the exploitation phase. In the proposed hybrid WOA-SCA, the exploration and the exploitation phases are calculated using SCA and WOA respectively to increase the convergence characteristics of the WOA. The proposed hybrid WOA-SCA optimization technique is tested and used to optimally allocate DGs and DSTATCOMs in the active distribution system to enhance the voltage profile by minimizing the total power losses in the system. The proposed hybrid WOA-SCA optimization is comprehensively compared with existing WOA to prove its effectiveness. All simulations are performed on the IEEE-33 bus and IEEE-69 bus distribution systems using MATLAB M. Files.
