Abstract

Voltage Stability Analysis is a scheme to determine voltage stability margins and critical contingencies for various power transfers by identifying the weak regions of reactive power deficiency within these regions. Active power-voltage (PV) curve and reactive power-voltage (QV) are some of the well known tools for monitoring the voltage stability. To maintain voltage levels stability of the interconnected power system reactive power control ought to be a basic requirement. To study the different methods and techniques used to improve the voltage stability of electrical power systems Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) Controllers are used to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability. This paper uses the IEEE 9 bus system with the aid of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) as a practical method to perform Voltage Stability Analysis in MATLAB. The results show that the voltage stability has been improved using this technique.
