Abstract

Coronary smooth muscle cells express several types of K+ channels, but KV appears to make the largest contribution to current in the physiological range of membrane potential. Further, our recent studies indicate that KV channels regulate coronary vascular tone. The family of KV genes contains at least 70 members; however, which KV genes are expressed in coronary artery remains to be determined. We tested the hypothesis that KV1 genes are expressed in coronary artery and whether the native KV currents have properties consistent with members of this family.
