Abstract

This paper investigates a novel coordinated voltage control strategy. This strategy considers a coordination between two voltage control devices: the soft open point (SOP) and the on-load tap changer (OLTC). A control frame based on distributed control manner was proposed, where each of the voltage control device acts as a control agent and operates based on both localized information and the information exchanged via a data acquisition platform. Under the proposed control frame, a priority-based coordination strategy was developed to achieve an optimal voltage management: no voltage compliance, reduced network energy losses and number of OLTC tap changes. A case study was conducted in an 11kV example network with different system operations and DG penetrations to testify the proposed control strategy.
