Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of effect of both power ratio (inverter maximum input power/generator peak power) and inverter input and output operational voltages, on total performance of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) plant. In small residential PV applications, power ratio is usually calculated during system design and specification stage, by determining peak PV power from guidelines given by inverter manufacturer, without a detailed analysis of solar resource?s magnitude or its characteristics at site of application. On other hand, inverter input CD voltage, determined by electrical configuration of PV array. In operation, this voltage varies in relation to irradiation and temperature of PV modules. Likewise, stability of inverter output AC voltage (voltage from grid at point of connection) depends directly on the strength of grid to which PV plant is connected. This paper presents comparisons between behavior indices, calculated from measurements obtained at a PV plant in operation and adequately monitored under slightly different conditions. These indexes, representative of operational behavior of PV plant, are basically: ? Performance ratio of PV plant ? PV generator efficiency ? PV inverter efficiency
