Abstract

the paper presents the impacts of installing optimized PI controlled flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices to improve voltage and angle stability of power systems. In the study static VAR compensator (SVC) is considered. The Henry Gas Solubility Optimization HGSO algorithm is applied to determine the optimum parameters of the proportional plus integral (PI) controller for SVC. Two different types of faults are considered to investigate the feasibility of installing optimized SVC devices in power systems to improve both angle and voltage stability. Three-phase short circuit fault is implemented at the generator terminals, and input mechanical disturbance are applied. The response indicate the superiority of the suggested HGSO controller over the conventional PI controller. Matlab software is used to solve the system equations.
