Abstract

Litter of Ceratiola ericoides and soil associated with this shrub were analysed for their volatiles by dynamic headspace sampling, followed by GC-MS identification. In litter volatiles, 1-octene, 3-octanol and 1-pentanol were most prevalent, while aliphatic alcohols and ketones were most abundant in soil. The major classes of volatiles, in both litter and soil, were aliphatic alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, and lesser amounts of benzenoids, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes.
