Abstract

Sixty-four species of vascular plants were tested for their ability to release volatile mercury. Rates ranged from 0.001 to 39.5 μg.kg −1.hr −1 depending upon species and method of measurement. Of 13 monocot families 9 contained at least one species capable of Hg emission and of 19 dicot families, 14 possessed this ability.
